For token transfers with an issuer-defined fee, the fee is calculated from the end of the transaction backwards. If the recipient needs to receive 100 tokens and the transfer fee is 1%, the sender must send 101 tokens.

The on-chain fee is already minimal, so the biggest cost savings come from choosing the right exchange for withdrawals. Look for exchanges with low withdrawal fees, consider timing large transfers during off-peak hours when the network is uncongested, and always double-check destination tags to avoid failed transactions that still consume fees.
